Employers Have Six Months to Prepare for New Overtime Requirements

On May 18, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced its highly-anticipated revisions to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) overtime provisions, which will go into effect Dec. 1, 2016. Under existing regulations, employees earning an annual salary in excess of $23,660, and who perform qualified administrative, managerial or professional duties, are not entitled to overtime pay. Fort McMurray fire continues in Alberta

NASA/GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER On May 12, 2016, a total of 17 wildfires were still burning in the vicinity of Fort McMurray, Canada. Provincial authorities still considered one of those fires to be “out of control.” As of May 12, fires in that part of Alberta had burned up at least 2,410 square kilometers (930 square miles) of land.
