Legal and Regulatory Reports
AED’s Legal & Regulatory Reports provide equipment distributors with practical resources for understanding the laws, regulations, and contractual issues that can affect dealer-manufacturer relationships. These publications help members identify important legal considerations, better understand their rights and responsibilities, and make more informed business decisions.
Resources include guidance on equipment distribution agreements, dealer protection laws, contract terms, termination and inventory repurchase provisions, warranties, territory and transfer issues, and other legal considerations specific to the equipment distribution industry.
The 2025 State Equipment Dealer Law Book Report, for example, compiles and compares more than 70 equipment dealer statutes across 48 states, including provisions related to termination, notice and cure periods, inventory repurchase, warranties, transfers, and statutory waivers. The 2017 AED Contracts Report provides guidance on negotiating and managing equipment distribution agreements, covering the formation, ongoing management, and termination of dealer-manufacturer relationships, as well as dealer protection, franchise, antitrust, and contract-law considerations.
