AED Commends House T&I Committee Action on BUILD America 250 Act

In the early morning of May 22, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee approved the Building Unrivaled Infrastructure and Long-Term Development (BUILD) for America’s 250 Act (H.R. 8870) with overwhelming bipartisan support (62-2).

“AED commends Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen for achieving tremendous support for the BUILD America 250 Act,” said AED President & CEO Brian P. McGuire. “The Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s action demonstrates that infrastructure investment is a bipartisan issue and there’s broad backing for surface transportation projects. AED now calls on the full House and the Senate to build upon this momentum and send the BUILD America 250 Act to the president’s desk for his signature before September 30.”

The BUILD America 250 Act is a five-year authorization of federal infrastructure funding, also known as a surface transportation reauthorization bill or the highway bill, that invests $580 billion in America’s roads, bridges, transit, rail transportation, and highway and motor carrier safety programs. These investments are critical to the equipment industry, the broader construction sector, and rural communities, and provide certainty for the continuation and expansion of projects that create and reinforce American infrastructure.

In addition to increased funding levels, the legislation includes other AED priorities such as an electric vehicle and hybrid registration fee, which will be the first new revenue stream for the Highway Trust Fund in over 20 years. Additionally, the bill contains permitting reforms to expedite project delivery and increased funding for highways and significant improvements to work zone safety programs.
