AED’s McGuire Responds to President Biden’s 2023 State of the Union

Brian P. McGuire, president and CEO of Associated Equipment Distributors (AED), issued the following statement after President Joe Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress on February 7, 2023.

“During the last two years, AED was pleased to work with the Biden administration on the equipment industry’s policy priorities, including enacting the bipartisan infrastructure law and the CHIPS Act, and supporting the Infrastructure Talent Pipeline initiative. Engaging with both Republicans and Democrats, President Biden has achieved legislative goals that eluded his predecessors and are creating American jobs, economic growth and improving the United States’ global competitiveness. These successes only reinforce the need to continue to work on bipartisan solutions to the nation’s greatest challenges.”

“Weak supply chains, workforce shortages and inflation continue to plague the equipment industry. All solutions to address these issues should be embraced by both parties, including incentivizing capital investment through a pro-growth tax code, funding career and technical education programs, reforming the infrastructure permitting process, removing trade barriers, encouraging North American energy development, and pursuing immigration policies to secure the border while updating the country’s antiquated visa process. Additionally, the administration and Congress must work together to pass a balanced Farm Bill that strengthens rural America and the agriculture sector.”

“Economic achievements since the pandemic will be quickly reversed by placing onerous tax and regulatory burdens on the nation’s job creators, particularly small-medium-sized businesses. AED looks forward to continuing to work with the Biden administration and all lawmakers to pursue pro-growth policies that create an environment conducive for economic growth and job creation.”
